We've got a 30-year old Oak tree in our front yard that we can see through a picture window. Two resident squirrels check the tree daily for food.

My sons are putting out unsalted peanuts in the shell (on a bird feeder) and that seems to work, provided the birds don't nab them first. I tried a piece of chocolate and the squirrels didn't touch it. What's your advice?

They enjoy bird seed a lot. Take a pine cone, roll it in peanut butter, and roll it in bird seed after that. You can hang it in the tree. The birds may peck at it, but the squirrels will take the entire thing!!

They will eat dried corn. You can buy it at a feed or seed store or Farm and Fleet. Even better would be an unshucked field corn cob that's dry. You can nail it to the tree.

don't give them chocolate b/c the caffeine in it could kill them. I would just suggest bird seed, they reallly like that. i used to have very friendly squirrels in my yard when i was a kid and I used to give them very small pieces of bread as well as nuts and bird seed. they were cool squirrels

They love peanuts and walnuts. I'd recommend not offering chocolate to any wild animals. I know it's bad for cats and dogs.

Nuts, dried fruit, never chocolate, it could kill them...good idea not to give chocolate to any of your pets....dangerous.
