Online, yes. While you're having fun asking and answering questions but I wouldn't bring any part of it into my life. I don't know who you are....and you have no idea who I am. I could be here looking for someone just like you that wants some friends. Maybe I'm a complete freak. By the way, what gender am I? If you ask, will I tell you the truth?

I think it was pathetic at first but now since I'm 20 I realize meeting good people isn't that easy but I'm not sure the internet is the place to start. Try joining a local club (like book or something). At least I live on a college campus!

It has been for me, but I'm a 64 year old Grandma. I have met several Y!A users in person. It started when I was invited to a Yahoo!Answer event at a trade fair last year, and I have also organized two meet ups with users who live around here, at restaurants.
I met about 50 users and their companions at the Yahoo!Answers birthday party and community service project. It was very enjoyable. We still stay in touch through our 360 blogs.

Making friends anywhere is a good thing....don't divulge too much personal information to people you don't know but apart from that make all the friends you can....let's face it you'll have a pretty good idea if someone is a fake....I personally have some lovely friends on here.

Why not! If you don't depend on internet alone for making friends it's not wrong to make some there too, I mean we're all real people. It's always nice to meet people that are on places too far away for you to make "real-life" friends
And someone said that on internet one can easily lie...
Well I don't see how that's any different from real life people!
I mean, people like that, who lie and pretend to be something they aren't, are everywhere, not only on internet!
That's my opinion :P

No worse than anywhere else. Be glad to explain. People are people. It dont matter where you meet them. You can find nice and uncool people anywhere and everywhere. Example: People say...Oh I would never marry someone that I met in a bar. Believe me their are many people that have got married that way. Dont fool yourself.

no and it's because you never really know who you are talking too, they can pretend to be anyone and post any picture and say anything at all about who they are. maybe they are nice and who they say they are but it only takes one pervert or lunatic to post and they are not going to tell you they are perv's or nutcases or criminals, they are going to lie and to me it's not worth it to risk your life and possibly those of your loved ones for someone you don' t even know. just look at all the posts about ppl being stalked and it's sooo easy to find out i.p. addresses now days so all these young girls on here all of a sudden find out that some nutcase knows exactly where they live...scary and not worth it.

Friends are more valuable than gold. I believe you can never have enough friends and that making friends ANYWHERE is a good thing. Someone once said that "you are never a failure if you have a friend" Hello friend.
