I am trying to think of a better way to make my baby's formula. I have heard of people keeping sterilized water in the fridge but since you have to sterilize the bottles, the nipples, and everything else, do you have to sterilize the water pitcher too? And how do I do that? It's too big to fit in my pot...

Sterlizing everything is so old fashioned. Of course you must keep things clean but it seems you are going way overboard. My baby is breastfed but when I need to I use nursery water you can buy in gallon jugs at the store - and just pour it in. You do not need to refridgerate it. Even if you sterilize the pitcher - the moment it touches anything else in the fridge then its no longer sterile. There are these wonderful microwave steam bag by Medela that you can use to steam clean bottles, nipples, pacifiers...etc. You get 5 in a box and each bag can be used 20 times. they are about $5. It taks 3 min in the microwave to disinfect and they are wonderful. You can go to Medela. com or babies r us or anywhre that sells Medela products. Good luck.

Yes. If the jug isn't sterile, the sterilized water you put in it is no longer sterile.

This is why people prepare batches of bottles rather than one gigantic container of the water ready for mixing--nobody's got a pot that big. Well, maybe lobster fans, or chili cook-off participants.

Funny to think in how short a time that baby's going to stick everything in his or her mouth, isn't it?

Sterilize your bottles and nipples, etc, and then boil the water. After it is cooled for a little bit fill your baby bottles with however many ounces baby usually takes. Then store the filled baby bottles with caps on them.

yes, of course, if the jug isn't sterile you will contaminate the water in the rest of the process.

answer is to get sterilisation tablets, then you immerse the jug in this for however long those tablet require

Might be able to sterlize it in the microwave...they have pouchs that you put in the microwave along with your bottles/nipples....so you might buy some of those and pop em in the micro with your water jug...
