I have a server that has a router connected to it which other computers connect to it (3 wired, 1 wireless). I want to add a printer to the server but i do not have a usb connector for it and i've been using the parallel port for it for a couple years. Now, my question, MOST printers now a days are USB connection but again,, I don't have a USB. how can I connect a printer? Do I have to keep using a Parallel port? can I start using a wireless connection?

If you have a desktop system, simply purchase a USB port card and fit it to add USB ports to the PC. You could buy a print server (they do not connect to the parallel port, they sit on the Ethernet), but they can be hard to set up and unstable. They are also unlikely to support advanced printer features or multifunction devices.

tg has it almost right, get a print server. But it's not a parallel to USB converter. Your printer will be on the network, not on your server, so you can access it from any PC on your network, even if your server is off.

Try Netgear, Linksys, D-Link or others. Just be sure it has a parallel port hookup.

It is quite possible to set up a wireless connection, however I would suggest buying a newer printer. Sounds to me that your printer must be old. I would sell that printer and buy a 5 in 1 printer. It saves space and are very nice.

Purchase what is called a printer server. It is simply a parallel to USB adapter and can be found at any major electronics store. Here is a picture: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=cat3&product_code=313942&Pn=Express_EtherNetwork_Fast_Ethernet_Print_Server
