This has to do with the location of the attorney's office.

There are several variables that will dictate pay. Is the office in a small town or big city? Is the attorney on a government payroll, or does s/he own his/her own office?

The range could be anywhere from $10.50 per hour to $22.00 or more.

Legal assistants are usually paid on an hourly basis and their rate of pay is dependent on their education and experience. Most paralegals at large law firms are college graduates who also have a paralegal certificate or degree. In some instances, paralegals even have law degrees.

There is a difference between the "billlable rate" and what a paralegal is paid. I have seen "billable rates" of paralegals of up to $100 per hour. The actual rate of pay is 1/3 to 1/4 of the billable rate.
