Right now I am using a Sony VAIO desktop with a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor. I'm considering buying a macbook for the upcoming school year. The macbooks have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Speedwise, what is the comparison between the two processors?

Thanks :)

Christina

Pent 4 might have a high clock speed but a dual core can process more information evenly since it's using 2 cpus. which makes everything seem faster, plus it takes it's load off of itself so the computer is not working too hard making the computer more effiecient. the dual cores are just starting to make a splash so i would go with that. pretty soon a dual core is gonna be a requirment for a lot of softwares. the core 2 duos are probably the best dual core cpus out there and 2.2 on a laptop is a great speed.

i will not express my opinions on a mac

the 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor is much faster than the pentium 4. the core 2 duo is actully 2 processors (cores) on a single socket. macs use the same processors pc's use so there is no difference
