The Illuminati is the name used for several groups, real and fictitious. Most commonly it refers specifically to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment secret society founded in the late eighteenth century. However, nowadays it refers to a purported shadowy conspiratorial organization which is reputed to secretly control world affairs, usually a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati. In this context, Illuminati is often used in reference to a New World Order (NWO). Many Conspiracy theorists believe the Illuminati (The People of The Light), or illuminated ones, are the masterminds behind events that will lead to a New World Order.

In rarer cases, the Illuminati refers to a purported elite set of enlightened individuals who may not cooperate but are uniquely empowered by their enlightenment, much like the intelligentsia are empowered by their education and intelligence. These are people who have become illuminated and have achieved a higher mystical understanding of the universe. Many secret societies and mystical traditions promise illumination or enlightenment, such as the original Bavarian Illuminati.

They played a big part in some of the bloodiest episodes in human affairs -e.g. the French Revolution. They are a serious historical fact and social reality e.g the Order Of Skull and Bones at Yale (anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant of the facts).
They're interwoven with the Freemasons at the highest degrees -- who're mainly useful idiots - unwitting, duped tools for the NWO.

BTW Earth man They've been trying to destroy the Catholic Church (and all other churches) since their creation .
The RC Church still forbids its members to become Fremasons. But you're right about the Illuminati/Masonic connections to the likes of , the Trilateral Commission and The Council of Foreign Relations. You can also add the Bilderberg group , the Club Of Rome, Chattam House or Royal Institute of International Affairs and The Round Table around the world .-to name a few more obvious ones.
...and they're all terrified of a guy in a cave!

The Illuminati were a real, secret organization that existed in Europe hundreds of years ago. I believe that the Catholic Church eliminated them. I don't believe that they exist now, but the Trilateral Commission and The Council of Foreign Relations (both founded by arch new worlder, David Rockefeller) are working towards a New World Order, and a North American Union with the US, Mexico, and Canada.
