Sand is made of mostly quartz. If you look up Bowen's Reaction Series you will see that quartz is the last mineral to weather in rocks because it is the most resistant. As rocks are carried by wind and water downhill and downstream they weather and get broken up over time. By the time these rocks get to the coastal areas all that is left is quartz grains. The rock has been tumbled and eroded so much it has broken down and all that is left is the most resistant mineral: quartz.
It is replenished by the continuation of the rock cycle and it is often carried from place to place by currents and storms.

Sand/ soil/ dirt is the result of "rock" weathering( breaking down in to smaller and smaller fragments).
Sand on the beach's, soil on a farmers field, all started out as molten lava, from a seismic event, the molten lava cooled, forming rock. Over millions/ billions of years, water, wind, glacial movement, temperature fluctuations cause the rock to break down into smaller and smaller pieces. Finally, sand / soil.
In about 30 seconds of time, you now know what gets some peoples attention, and why they go to the universities to study geology.
No, I am not a geologist.

It is made from silicon deposits from the ocean.
EDIT: they can also synthisize silicon. The sand can also come from an ocean, not necessarally from the same ocean beach.
