The fact that we are born into society and experience and live in it, just like everyone else. The only point at which we are made to feel like we don't have a connection comes when our sexual orientation comes under fire. This usually doesn't happen until we are already aware that we are a part of it.
Our "removal" from society is an illusion, in my opinion. We were, are, and will continue to be a part of society because we are alive and function in it, just as we always have from the day we were born.
If the only thing that bound us to it in the first place was sexual orientation, then it's not a working society, anyway.

The wording of your question implies that we are somehow a seperate, isolated group from the "rest of society", which I resent!

Sexuality is kind of a small detail when you consider that along with everything else that makes humans similar.

We are all human beings, although much of society doesn't behave like it very often.
