for many years i was a sucker for the kibble companies, spending way too much money for crap. Tell me if a dog poops 35lbs of poo per 40lbs of food, how much is he really getting out of it.

when i bought my Great Danes i found out that its really hard to find a food in the breeders guildlines, so in search of something better, i found a rawfeeding site. The things on it were like a light bulb going off, and a big huge DUHH..

Even the best foods are processed.

food for thought... www.rawfed.com ,myths section and http://www.wysong.net/controversies/bluebuffalo.shtml

dogs get bad breath and teeth from kibble, diabeties from all the excess starches and sugars in kibble that they cant digest, cancer in dogs has increased since the kibbles came out along with many other issues.
Raw feeding doesnt solve all problems, but eliminating kibble is a darn good start..

ohh food for thought, the usda allows a pretty good level or the euthinasia drug to be present in dog foods,

Raw food usually creates more problems than it solves. Dog food is formulated by scientists and veterinarians, not by people with no scientific, medical or nutritional experience. Raw food contains bacteria, and is not natural. In nature, WILD animals kill and eat prey (whole body, not a carcass from the grocery store) and their digestive systems are designed for this. Domestic dogs digestive systems are not. I have fed kibble to my dogs all their lives and have had them live well into their teens (even 15 and 17) with barely a health problem. Feeding raw foods is not recommended by the veterinary community.

Having worked many years in a veterinary field and falling for the whole kibble is best routine. This is what I have come up with: Most people don't realize that kibble (even the most expensive brands) is still processed food. Kibble companies donate lots of money to vet schools. Most vets believe the hype fed to them in school. When pushed though most cannot answer "why" kibble is "better". I fed my dogs for years on kibble and they did OK. After the food scares, I switched to a raw diet and they are doing a little better.
What it comes down to is how much time you are willing to spend on preparing your pets food. It takes me about 2 hours a week between purchasing and portioning out food/ supplements. As far as cost goes, I am spending loads more on fresh food than I did on kibble (I fed Nutrimax lamb/rice- no corn) To be fair, the girls LOVE this diet and woe is me if I ever have to put them on kibble for any reason!

Many veternarians are seeing the benifits of raw feeding, and are changing there views and opinions, i personally turned 2 vets and several vet techs onto raw.
with 3 danes and 3 other dogs plus 6 cats i have never had it be a problem but after my poor animals had to detox i seen all the problems that kibble caused, and the rescues i have had to have teeth pulled from because of a kibble diet, not an issue in raw fed pets.

speaking of digestive systems pets cant digest comercial dog foods because on the inside they are exactly like wolves and lions. They have no ablitly to break down the complex carbs..

ohh and trusting scientest..lol.. thats funny.. and just how many people have they killed with these drugs they find, and just how many people lost there pets due to pet food companys formulas..

Btw there are less reported istances of a dog being sickend or injured by a RAW bone oposed to choking on kibble or rawhides. Cooked bones are another story and should never be given to dogs or cats..

I think that before you unfairly judge something you should look at both sides of the argument, go ahead and look at those sites

My Dog loved Kibble and Bits, all those little different colored shapes. But she started having seizures and sure enough when I switched her to a different food without all that coloring she almost completely stopped having trouble. Well, I don't want to get into the same kind of trouble as Oprah but be careful what you give your pet. Think twice about your dog food if corn is the main ingredient. That's the same thing they use to fatten hogs.

There are such things as quality kibble, which is a lifesaver for me as I couldn't stumoch feeding my papillon raw food all the time. I agree with you, though, when it comes to grocery-store kibble. I work for Winn-Dixie and get a good look at all the ingredients on a daily basis. It's not so good, not at all. It bothers me that people think that Purina One and Kibbles and Bits are the "best" as most of them do say, "Only the best for my babies."

Even my vet recomends science diet, which is worse than a lot of others.

you are already doing the best thing, just keep trying new things till you find a food that she will eat. eventually she will eat what ever you put down as she feels more settled. dried food is ok for cats ive got 7 cat and 1 kitten and they all eat different things as they vary in age and in how many teeth they have got and ive found dry and wet food is ok and given the choice they will eat whats put down

People use it because they don't know any better.

My dog have had 95% raw food since two were 12 weeks old, the other has been raised on it since day one and they are now 19, 18 and 17 years old.

I knew someone that used to work in a kibble factory and one time I went there and there were rats everywhere, and they were falling in the machines and stuff..... I think rats are cute, but these could have had diseases or anything.....gross.

They put the same crap in the dog food that they put in ours. That is why pets are now getting diseases and disorders that were things that humans only were afflicted with.
