what radio station are you listening to?

As a former recording artist- I know how you feel. It is very difficult to be an 'individual' with music tastes that might run parallel to what is popular. Unfortunately, record companies and even producers can easily get caught up in 'what the other guy is doing' because 'the other guy is selling records' and therefore "YOU' have to 'sound' like them or not get the radio airplay. Just think about it - there are some very talented people out there (India Arie) for example, but because she is outside of the box - her music does not get regular airplay. She only fits a certain radio format - and will only receive airplay on those stations or during certain times of the evening (when music slows down for evening listeners). For the most part, we the consumers allow the record companies to continue to dictate to us what 'they' want us to hear.

Thats the music business. Once a band makes it, record companies are going to sign other bands that sound just like them. Look at the ska wave of the mid-90s. Ska hit the U.S. and it was huge. Then all these ska bands were emerging and were being played on the radio. Before the ska trend, ska bands would have never been signed so quickly.

i agree 100% on your question and ur little thing that you added. it sounds the same because 1: i kinda understand it a little, i mean as time goes on it will be a little harder to be origional in it. 2: there just like metallica, just in it for the money. did you hear the rumor about how they sued a guy for using the chord e minor tryin to call it theres. they dont care about origionality at all, just what makes them millionares. 3: they cant be as origional as the classic rock people, the classic rock people were on different stuff. look at stairway, one of the greatest songs ever (its a rock anthem) and they were all on mary jane. and hendrix was on lsd for allof his. now there all on speed and stuff so youll get diffent music. 4. lastly, there just not as into the music like they used to be. think about it, basically every song was written on the 12 bar blues and they still were way different. now they dnt spend enuf time on the songs. its just as many albums as they can cuz the more albums, the more money. and whats sad is people do buy it. one band not like that cuz there still old fashioned is velvet revolver, and their cd was already reduced in price the first day it came out. and think of jet, noone even knows who they are anymore.
its just like everything else in our world now, it all involves "brainwash" per say. whatever makes the people happy is what they go for. not the music.

thats why i listen to Mushroomhead! they arent mainstream, all of their songs sound the same, and they have such a wide range. they have songs that are death metal/metal/rock/techno/ and some songs have a little hip hop and rap thrown into them. they are a very unique and cool band. im not that big of a mainstream music fan either. ill admit, there are a few bands on the radio i like, but most of its boring and sounds the same.

they don't. if you actually listened to some of them instead of bitching about how horrible they are you'd notice that they have a totally different sound/pitch, the singers don't sound a like and they all have a certain way of writing. bands that i don't know sound the same to me but the ones that i do know i can tell them all apart.
