I was wondering what is causing my rabbit to have orange urine. Has it anything to do with carrots.

Well I worked and volunteered at shelters and they fed them fresh fruits and veggies, small amt of pellets and lots of hay. I will not feed my rabbit carrots for 2 to 3 days and see if that chances the color cause when I got him it was on the yellow side.

There are pigments (porphyrins) in the urine, which can range from yellow to red. This can be normal, and yes, diet can play a part in this. Too much alfalfa can increase pigment. Alfalfa should not be fed to adult rabbits (it is too high in calcium and can lead to heart and kidney disease). Use a good grass hay, such as timothy, instead, and as much as the rabbit wants each day. Limit pellets to 1/4 cup per 5 lbs. rabbit weight.

Too much carrot can cause it. I have an adult rabbit and I only giver her half a carrot every second day. I used to give her nearly a full carrot daily and her urine was bright orange. Cut out the carrot for a few days and see if that makes any difference, if not then it's time for a vet.

If the urine is orange then it is probably from carrots.

If the urine is a reddish color than your rabbit probably has "red urine". It is not deadly or even seriously. It just means that the rabbit doesn't fully digest it's food properly. It is common in rabbit and there is no way to prevent it. The rabbit will be fine!

Hope this helps,
Jamie

Usually the change in urine color is a result of the fruit or vegetables you fed to your rabbit.

It's nothing to be concerned about. If the urine is white or really has a bloody appearance, then it's time to see the vet.

It probably is getting a lot of carrots. Not too many carrots, just a lot. And maybe not enough water.

Yes if your feeding a lot, otherwise get it checked out by a vet as a virus or a bladder infection can also cause it

maybe. believe it or not, for domestic rabbits it is not good for them to have carrots or other veggies. it gives them diarhha or other urinary issues. do some research cuz i am not sure.

It may not be the carrots, but rather a dye that is in his toys. I would check that. If he is otherwise healthy, this may not be a threat. Check with a vet.

It is extremely concentrated because they don't drink much. The liquids they ingest is usually from their food.
