A friend of mine died owing me about $10,000 .How do I file a claim aganist his estate and how long do I have to do that?He lived in Elkhart,In. if that makes a difference.

well that is sad if he needed that money is that because he was broke..why drag his family into nonsense.thats pathetic

First of all - with that much money in question, I hope you have some proof. Secondly, you only have to go court and make a claim against the estate of____________. When the estate goes into probate - your claim will be added to whatever additional claims may be held against the estate. Then you have to pay attention to court dates. Usually, the family will have to submit to the newspaper when will and other claims go into probate. After that, you have a short window to submit your claim. I think about 60 days. This may depend upon the state.
