Vet school is the single hardest field to break into. There are only 27 Vet schools in the US and many don't take students outside of their geographical area. This means that any given individual can only apply to one or two different schools.

WHile these schools might not have a requirement that you take all of your classes at a four year university -- you have to realize that most of your competition will not only have degrees from a four year school -- but from a good one. You will increase your chances by going to the best university that you can get into.

Medical schools are less selective (hard to believe -- but true) -- but the same reasoning applies.

Of course MANY MANY professionals started thier college career in the CC's because for many people it just makes sense to save money while you take general ed because you learn the same thing anywhere you go, and it give you time to SAVE money for the University and or Graduate school.

I'm majoring in Pharmacy and my requirement are much the same actually the only diff is I don't have Nutrition, and am currently attending a CC. which for UCSF i don't even need a degree to apply once I finish the pre-req's even from the CC.

The only Difference between university Gen ed and CC gen Ed which is what the pre-req's basically are is the Price tag I learn the same stuff as I would at Harvard, only the Blood slides you get to make there and here at a CC we get the pre-made kind. Same books same Subject matter.

You are going to need at least 6 hours of biology, 12 hours of chemistry + labs and maybe some physics and math. However, most medical schools do not like it if you take your prerequisites at community colleges. So I recommend you take some courses just for your major going into college or something like history or english to get it out of the way. Also major in whatever you want in college, not necessarily biology or chemistry. These days you can choose whatever major and have an equal chance of being accepted! :D

You can, although it may add a semester to your time in school. It depends on the course avilability at the community college and the requirements at the 4-year school. Not all the courses may be available.
