Which universities/collages in california are the best for masters for a finance/economics/maths mix subject?

I want to go to california because of the weather there and because i can't be bothered to learn a 3rd language right now so which unis are in that area? im doing maths and economics right now in essex uk and im gonna be doing a masters soon and need my choices. it will probably have something to do with the subjects above but don't know which ones are the good ones and which are just a waist of time.

The three best finance departments in California are Stanford, UC-Berkeley and UCLA. All three schools also have excellent economics and math departments. If you only care about the weather and not the quality of your education, then there are other schools you could consider in California.

Of these, Stanford and UCLA do not take master's students into their graduate program. You can get a PhD in finance or an MBA at either of these schools. You can get an MS in Finance if you are accepted to their PhD program and don't make it through. But you can't get an MS in FInance. The same is true for the economics programs at all three schools.

Berkeley doesn't take master's students into its economics program either. However, in addition to its PhD program and its MBA program, it has an MFE program (Master's in Financial Engineering) which is a terminal program and is excellent.

As for the weather -- you will find that the summers are about 70 degrees and it never rains -- but during the school year, there is a steady drizzle from October through March -- much like the UK.

You should know that all of these programs are very competitive. Berkeley, for example, gets 250-300 applications per year for its finance PhD program, and only accepts between four and nine.
