Good Afternoon,
There is one language that is universal, grace and humility are it's main component, it is Hospitality. Treat others as you wish to be treated, honor the customs of your hosts as much as you are able, and leave intellectual conceits at home in a little box when you are dealing with people who have not lived in your geographic, ethnic and socioeconomic niche.

My favorite Aunt is from Northern Brasil, she speaks very little English and "Ao no fala Portuguese". Spoken language was not a barrier to us, I had more meaningful exchanges with her than many Aunties of mine from Michigan. Keep trying, there are so many fantastic things you can learn from other human beings from distant locales.

A cousin of mine from Paris got his company to pay for a two week intensive conversational English course in Downtown San Diego, CA. The native speakers there have a non-regional dialect that almost any person born in the USA can understand and even speakers of Queen's English too. Just keep trying! Namaste

Mis communication happens, even when it is in the language spoken most often.
I love learning about different cultures, etc. Lot's of people stereo type and judge others. Sometimes it can be incredibly difficult not to judge. What is sad is when a group of people are judged because of one or more other peoples actions. Even when the whole group was not involved.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don't mean what they say. It's like they are just going through the motions. Lot's of people only care about themselves.
HOWEVER, LOT"S OF PEOPLE ARE SINCERE< GENUINE AND CARING. It can be difficult to sort them out. When you do, it's good to know who they are. Usually, you find out who your friends are when you have difficulties or problems in life. Actions speak a lot louder than words.
If there is miscommunication. It is best to ask if it could be reworded for a better meaning.
Good Luck.

In general, it is lack of understanding that creates most of the confusion when multi-cultural people are brought together. If you don't understand something being said or it is confusing, it is always accepted to say, "I'm not sure I understand what you have said, could you explain it please." Many people are unsure how to express themselves so that everyone understands what they have said. When asked for a further explanation, they are usually more than willing to respond.

Put love in your heart for all people and it shines brightly. Let no one offend you. Put God first and all others seem to fall in order. Ask God each day for discernment, because this is what you are needing. People react to a gentle, kind and caring person even if their heart is as cold as ice. They don't know how to handle a person full of love for everyone.
