It's a good name! I love the name Matthew. The middle name Skylar is OK but use Skyler with an E which is more masculine than Skylar with an A which is a girl's name.

Matthew is a great name but Skylar is a girls name. I have a family member with the name Skylar and everyone calls her Sky. Good Luck with the baby.

If your boyfriend is going to be in your child's life as if he is the father, perhaps the two of you could sit down and both make lists of boys names that you both individually like. Exchange the list, both cross out names that you simply will not ever be able to tolerate, and when the lists are wittled down to names you both can tolerate, pick your favorites and combine them into a name you'll both like.
However, if your boyfriend isn't someone you imagine being with forever and ever, name your child what you'd like. Your son will always be a part of your life.
I've had a boys name picked out forever, and whenever I've gone into a relationship, I've told them that should I get pregnant and it be a boy, there is nothing that they can say that will change my mind about my first born son's name.
How much do you love the name? Will you be disappointed if it changes?
Oh, and that said, in response to several of the comments I've seen saying that Skylar is a girl name, according to any baby name website that you'll go to, Skylar and Skyler are unisex names. And I've had similar responses to some of my choices for girl names. I like the name Hayden for a girl. So, don't change it based on ignorant commenters.
I do agree that Skyler with an E looks more masculine. But, as stated previously, they're both unisex. So, who really cares?

Why would he have any say then? Is he going to be there forever to bring up this child? If that's your choice, he should have the respect that this is the name you have chosen for your child that you are responsible for taking care of. He's not a part of the equation, unless he's really serious about being a part of your life and taking care of this child. You could compromise to a certain extent, if he plans to be there for the long haul. You could pick one name and he another, and combine the two. But if he's just the flavor of the month, I wouldn't worry about his opinion! When you have respect shown to you by another person in your life, I think it says a lot about who they really are. Please see the signs, if any basic lack of respect towards you is starting to show up. Decent people will find decent solutions when problems arise. If your boyfriend is willing to work this out with you, in a decent manner, it's a good sign he's a good guy with a good heart! Good luck!

I love it! It's soo cute. Matthew is common and Skylar is a little more uncommon. I think the combination works really well together.
