My father is in prison for life? Will I get in trouble if I use his social security number? We have the same name. Like, for an example, college. They want your parents information so if I give them my dads, I should do pretty well money wise. Just wondering how the whole thing works when they go to prison like if their social and stuff are like frozen across the board.

Ummm...if they want your parents info for student forms, then yes, you can provide his #.

His lack of income will help you get grants. He will not be able to help you get LOANS. Loans at your age require a co-signer and he will never be able to be sued should you default, so they won't give you loans based on his status.

Anywhere his information is required you can give his number, but you CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PRESENT HIS SS# AS YOUR OWN. It's a federal crime.

I hope you do not want to join your father because using another person's social security card is what is called committing fraud. When they ask for your parents information it is alright to use your father's SSN for that. They are asking for a specific SSN. When one goes to prison, they submit the Social Security Number to Social Security so any type of SSI, or SSD will be stopped. So they do know that he is in prison. Don't get yourself in trouble.

If you mean to pose as your father then thats a bad idea, as soon as you do that you will be arrested because the national background check will show you are "in jail".

Besides you can't be the same age as your father; SS and Date of Birth are matched in the system. Once you enter the wrong birth date a red flag will be put on you. You are not the first one with that idea, some people have done it and have been arrested.

Now maybe you put your question in the wrong words (since your example doesn't match your question) and you mean asking if you can "provide" your fahter info to collage if they ask you; YES you can do that, they want to know who is your father they don't care if he is in jail or not.

unless you want to join your Dad in prison, I would not use his social security number. That is fraud against the federal government.

Look at it this way...
You use your dad's SSN.
You apply for loans, you apply for credit cards, you apply for jobs. All are checked using your SSN.
You are basically assuming his identity, so it would show up that YOU were the one in prison. You are committing fraud. YOU go to jail.
Is it worth the hassles?

It's illegal. Besides - using his number will show that you have a criminal record - one that is bad enough to put someone in jail for life. You would never pass a back ground check. I don't really see any point in doing this...
