plugged the 2nd HD in, it never started up again. No 'pop', no smoke, no nothing. The hardrive doesnt have any spots that look melted or burnt. I also put in a 650watt power supply. Is it possible I had too many add-ons for the motherboard to handle, or do you think it might be the switch in the front of the case that quit working?

Unplug everything from your motherboard and try starting up the system with just the power supply and RAM connected. If that works, add one piece of hardware at a time until the system fails to start up, then you found your problem. If the system doesn't start up when its bare, you may have a busted motherboard of power supply.

thats an odd problem... its doubtful the power switch has gone bad... I would open it back up, double check all of the connectors on the motherboard and all of the drives. you may have dislodged something while you were poking around with the insides... also make sure that the external power switch on your new powersupply is in the on position.. I know it sounds silly, but you never know

See the previous respond. It feels like the previous disk has an previous O/S on it it incredibly is getting used FIRST interior the booting technique. My wager is that the computing gadget is in all probability attempting as properly from the previous disk that it sees first, and Vista force has logically replace into the '2nd' force. attempt this: Re-connect the cables for the previous and new drives, noting the size of each and every. Then reboot the computing gadget, entering into the motherboard SETUP reveal screen. on the 1st reveal screen (or force reveal screen) bear in mind the order and names of the two drives, then set the BOOT priority to work out the recent force first... The order i desire to propose recently: a million. CDROM 2. confusing disk (the recent force could desire to be chosen) 3. Disabled/None as quickly as the computing gadget boots exact in VISTA, you should work out the recent force as force C:, and the previous one as D:. you ought to use abode windows Explorer to opt for the force D:, and then suitable-click to "format..." the previous force.
