I fell off my bike over a week ago. My left breast took virtually all the force. I thought it was getting better but now it's like whenever I laugh, hiccup etc. the pain comes on. Also whenever I run or get up from sitting or laying down the pain comes back. This i starting to interfere with work. I have to run around at work a lot and for this week my boss was nice enough to not let me lift heavy things, but since I'm new I don't want to keep asking my boss to make exceptions for me. How much longer is this pain going to last? The pain is not severe, but it's bad enough to cause a nuisance.

I didn't break a rib. If I'm still, like when I watch TV or I'm lying down, it doesn't hurt. It only hurts when I make certain movements.
I asked my neighbor, she's a nurse, if I might ahve broken a rib. She said if I had broken a rib I'd be an excruciating pain and it would hurt each time I breathed.

My breast is pretty badly bruised.
I can't go on sick leave.
I just started my job 2 weeks ago. I don't want to jeopardize it.

Yes, a broken rib, as Ive done that a couple of times.

It will last for about 1 - 1.5 months, but the pain of up and down in bed will be more tolerable after about 2 - 3 weeks. Try rolling out of bed onto your knees and then standing, rather than sitting up and swinging legs over bed. This will reduce the muscle pull on your rib, and won't be so painful. It will also help heal it faster, as you are not pulling on the two bits of bone so much, so they will fuse faster.

Tell the boss you have been diagnosed with a broken rib, and have been warned not to lift for a few weeks. And if you do and it hurts, tell him and don't do it. Yous should not get fired. Ask for some different duties for the next month.

I know you have no insurance; but the Emergency Room can't refuse to see you because of that. You should go get a chest x-ray done to make sure you don't have a cracked rib or sternum.

When you are home use a hot water bottle to soothe it and while you are in work take Motrin for the pain.

If nothing is broken or cracked the Pain should subside within 10 days of the injury.

Good Luck =)

You need to have an Xray taken. You may have fractured a rib. IYou.re probably badly bruised. An Xray is the best option. In th meantime take painkillers and rest. Can't you go on sick leave?
