I am not sure about foods that help cramping but I usually like to take a super hot shower. Face the shower head and let the hot water hit your tummy. The hot water will sooth your cramps. Midol does not usually work for me either but 3 regular advil usually does the trick for me if the shower is not enough.

5 dark bing cherries equal the same pain relief as 1 ibuprofin... if you can't find them fresh you can usually find them frozen at walmart supercenters...i've had to do this for menstrual cramps when i was under doctor's orders to not medicate... if you hate cherries (which seems crazy but i have heard of this) you can get black cherry capsuls from health food stores...
it really works!
also try visualization... lay down and focus on your pain... slowly imagine that the pain (which is the color red) is moving into one central point where it's the most intense... once it's the size of a pea imagine it disapearing...
this works incredibly well... you'll have to do it 4 or 5 times per session but eventually you'll get really skilled at it and it's certainly a great skill to have (for things like childbirth and after surgery)

You know, I have found that drinking lots of water helps. When I have cramps, I grab a glass of water. It don't always help but most of the time it does.

Ginger root, finely grated, in hot water, as strong as you can take it. It works a bit like aspirin, which used to be derived from tree bark. It makes you sleepy, but it really does help.

increase your calcium intake.. not just when your having cramps.. the doctor recommended to start taking a calcium vitamin everyday to help reduce cramp pain.. it helped me a lot... i
