We had lots and lots of babies....... many many times.....most of the fry were eaten by other cichlids in tank to keep population under control and several were taken to our local pet store which happily took them in trade for some store credit. We had the same mix one black and 2 pink.

Odds are strong that they will breed. It is OK for the different colors to breed. They are the same species, just with recessive genes that have been segregated out in aquarium breeding. You are just mixing the recessive genes back into where they originated, not creating a hybrid. A hybrid mixes different species. Unless the black female carries the pink gene, all of the offspring will be black. If two of the black offspring later breed, one fourth of their fry will be pink and the rest black. One fourth of those will not carry any recessive gene for pink, but will be visually indistinguishable from the ones that do carry it. Convicts are intensely motivated to spawn, and care for their fry. Way more than any other cichlid, they are recorded as hybridizing with many other species if they don't have a mate of their own kind. I suspect some of the convict strains that are blood red or powder blue have a little of some other species mixed in them, although possibly it might have come from the rare modern import of wild convicts into the hobby from collection sites other than the one our aquarium bred convicts originated from decades ago.

Absolutely. Pink and Black convicts are simply different color morphs of the same fish.
You'll likely end up with about a 50/50 mix of the colors in the babies.

Yes and with Parrot Cichlids too, as Parrot Cichlids are hybrids of Convicts. Beware- a lot of pet shops don't want the babies. Convicts are good parents and readily reproduce.

Yes they will breed. If you breed the young together a couple of times and experiment with backcrossing you may eventually produce piebalds (half black half pink convicts).

Where do you think pink convicts came from? They are a color morph of the regular convict. Yes they will interbreed, and you will be begging pet stores to take them from you for free.
