Typically, goth people are associated with darkness, depression, moodiness, death, fear of getting a tan, whatever. What irritates me is when I see this "goth people" in the mall, doing the same things as other kids thier age, but trying SO hard to look different. Also, gothic people like to come across like they are so sad and deprived, but, I live in a pretty affulanant area, so, it just looks like a front. Its like seeing those skinny blond hair blue eyed kid pretending to be a rapper complaining about all his hardships of the inner city when he lives in the burbs. Easy answer.. it looks fake, and the majority of these "gothic people" will move on to the next fad that grabs them.
For those who find it to be a lifestyle, they will stick with it because thats who they are. And for those people, I say, good for you. At least you know yourself and are not afraid to be who you are.

Goth people seem the stand out in the crowd. I don't find anything wrong with them, but when you go to a mall for example, and a cute little prep walks past a goth, what do you think her reaction would be? Frightened, shocked, maybe?
There are a lot of preps around now as for the 90's the whole Goth style was popular. It seems prep's have taken over so it's a less common thing to see and some people find it rather shocking.

It's all a social thing, you know... stereotypes. Unfortunately, stereotypes, while often being totally wrong, are more often kind of right. They're based on truth. I've known a few goths and one wicca, and they were all nice to me, but adults didn't grow up around them, and other people are just afraid. They're not only afraid of what they don't understand, but of what truly scares them. Gothic people and witches are interested in activities that are traditionally considered to be evil, and if you knew somebody that you thought was truly evil, you'd be afraid of them, too.
Stereotypes start when a group of like-minded people start some kind of trend within their clique. Once that trend spreads to most members, a stereotype is born. Unfortunately, a lot of people are lumped into a neat little category they don't actually fit into.

Do not say "people" alone.
Correctly used it will be "Why do some people"
Not everyone dislike gothic
In reality gothic is just a label as you get older you will realize that the balance between labels and life.
My point exact is there's better things out there to be worrying about, If you ask yourself
"Why do people not like gothic people"
Some will tell you "Because they are scary"
Others will tell you "i do not dislike them"
Labels such as "Preppy,Gothic etc..
You see there is no accurate answer, so why even care?
Labels Occur mostly in high school so,I am going to guess you're still in high school.
Life > labels.
People say "gothic people" are trying so hard to be different.
What most people do not understand is we are all different in certain ways, but deep inside we're all skin and bones.

Most people don't like goths because they earned a bad rep. A lot of teenagers just turn to that subculture to rebel and listen to Marilyn Manson. They don't realize that goth actually stems back to 80s, to darker new wave music like Bauhaus. The reason people don't like goths is either because they don't like ANY subculture, or because they are truly into a certain scene and realize that most modern day goths are just nu-metal posers.
Oh yeah, and you don't have to like "wicca" to be goth. Magic doesn't exist, and you'll realize this in a few years.

I love goths. Sometimes tho... because of the reactions of people who abused them because of their style choices etc. they react to others less than friendly tho... A few weeks ago I was traveling in a city about 250 miles from where I live and I was in a large mall. There was a 20somethings young man who was standing in line in front of me and he was dressed as a goth. I am wiccan, 50, and red headed but dress fairly conservatively when i travel. He had the nicest tattoo and as we stood there I complimented him on it. He viewed me with suspicion and just nodded his head. I felt bad that my innocent comment caused him to look at me that way. On my way home I thought about how this society sees people who are different. It is so very sad that people are treated badly because of something so trivial.

They look kinda scary, like they're into Satanism and they're depressed and hopeless. Compare a picture of a gothic person to a "normal" or averagely dressed person.

Because a lot of the time those people tend to be hypocrite by insisting that they are "individuals" and try to prove this by dressing the exact same way as other people. For the most part, it just comes off as fake.

My grand-daughter is goth and Wiccan. I love her exactly the same as I did the day she was born. Most of her friends are also goth. We went to a witchcraft store last Saturday to buy some books and candles (no bells). What she believes is her choice. She looks good in black.
