I have an Epson R1800 photo ink jet printer.
Brilliant printer - when printing colour.

I set out to print 500 leaflets and 1/2 way through found i had to replace my Cyan ink, Blue and now it's begging me to replace my Red - why?

It's a black and white text leaflet, so why is it draining all my colour cartridges?

Is there a way to just print black, matt black at that and leave the other 7 cartridges alone?

thanks.

Illustrator doesnt have default B&W/ full colour options, so i had to go into my print driver properties and set it to greyscale, however since i have no matt black ink left, i cant test if this will work and leave the rest alone.

With these epson printers, you cant just use 1 cartridge. If one of the 8 inks run out, you have to replace it before you can print anything else. I personally find it stupid, especially when dealing with black and colour - hence me outsourcing more than printing myself.

anyway, i'll see if that works when i buy a new cartridge tomorrow - thanks once again.

In the printer driver, enable the "black only" option or "greyscale using black"

however you will need to replace the empty cart NOW.

Sounds like it was printing composite black, usinc a blend of colours. often they will on non-plain-text prints

First cancel the print job in process, to do this right mouse on the printer icon in the lower right section of the taskbar, near the time, click on the job name then hit the delete key.

Now go to the program that generates your flyer and click file in the upper left, get the pull down menu and choose print from the pull down. This will open a printer window, click properties, an new window will open that has several tabs acoss the top, click through the tab until you find the setting for black & white or graytone, click the graytone or B&W then click OK, you'll be back at the print screen, choose the number of copies and print.

when printing "just black" i would use a black cartridge. when trying to print a black and white document using a colour cartridge, it mixes blue and yellow to make a really really dark green, to our eyes it looks like black.

but if you just have a colour cartridge then go on
Control Pannel
Printers and hardware
Printers and faxes
right click on your printer and click on properties
go on to the colour tab
un check the box saying "print in full colour"

and thats it!!!

or a really easy way is to just write in black !!

do you know when you use the ink jet printers and send the data on it you cannot use one color of the printer certainly if you want to use black color alone the rest of the colors will be use too .
good luck
