the pet stores around here only sell ones for cats- could they be used for bunnies or should I look online to buy one specifically for bunnies?

The ones for cats can be used, but may not always work. It is important to prevent hairballs in the first place as rabbits can't vomit and the hair can cause fatal blockages. If your rabbit is fed free choice grass hay, like Timothy, then hairballs are uncommon. Long coated breeds should be combed and brushed frequently. Make sure your rabbit is well hydrated by keeping fresh water always available. If your rabbit is not eating, and is not producing stool, you need to see a vet experienced in rabbit medicine--not all are so call around! It will need immediate attention.

The best, safest and cheapest remedies are:

Fresh (not canned) pineapple juice
Fresh or dried Papaya
Papaya tablets (health food store)
1/8th teaspoon of Meat Tenderizer in the drinking water

The Meat Tenderizer is processed papaya without all the sugar. About 1/8th of a tsp in the drinking water for about 4 days is enough to help break up the clump in the stomach.

a cats hairball is naturally larger than a rabbits. because they have different bodies and sizes you should try finding one made specifically for bunnies. our petstore has some made for rabbits so if you give me your location i may be able to send you the remedies, then you pay me back via mail. if you decide to do this e mail me your address. if you feel uncomfortable giving me your address you can try looking for the remedy for rabbits on e bay and you may find something. also try petsmart i believe they sell it at petco too. good luck and i hope i helped

LOTS of hay. Hay reduces the amount of time it takes to get through their digestive system. Get good hay-- Oxbow Timothy, also for variety Orchard grass is sweet and also healthy.
