I planted lettuce for the first time this year. Mostly "Boston, Romaine and other green lettuces). It seems ready so quickly..when is the best time to pick it?
AND...
Will it continue to grow all summer or will it go to seed?

Leaf lettuce should be able to be harvested for as long as there are leaves. Cut only what you need, and it will grow back. It will not turn into heads, that is another type all togeather. It will grow seed heads if you don't pick it, this is one way of getting lettuce next year it you want.

You can continue to pick it until it gets too hot and then it will begin to wilt away. It will only go to seed if you let it. You can pick the lettuce while it is young or wait till if forms heads it is entirely up to you.

my friends pick their leaf lettuce a little at a time. pick as much as the outside leaves as you need them. I don't know what to do with head lettuce. I think that is about the size.

what you want to do is trim the leaves you want off. If you cut it at the stems head then the plant will not produce anymore lettuce.

Pick it now and it will continue to produce. If you let it go it will go to seed.
