Drama club is an EXCELENT start! So is choir! Anything to do with performing. I'll name some others.

-Drama Club: This will get you used to preforming in front of people and you'll learn a lot. (An actor can never stop learning things!)
-Any Auditions: Even if you don't get in, its awesome experience. It will get you comfortable in auditions. If you do get it then kudos to that!
-Karaoke: It will help you be able to sing in front of large audiences
-Dance lessons: Dancing is a big part in theatre, This will teach you how to do it!
-Voice lessons: Singing is VERY important! You need to be good at singing for musicals and it even helps projection for dialouge in a play!
-Acting lessons: This will teach you how to act properly and you'll always be learning new things
-Theatre workshops: Thiswill teach you more acting skills
-Singing/Dancing/Putting on skits in Talent shows: Will get you used to audience and will also add on to you experience
-Make Videos with your friends (Put them on Youtube =]): This will obviously get you used to the camera.
-Community Plays: You will learn more techniques and you'll have more to put in your reseme
-School Plays: Same as above
-Just putting on random skits!: This will0 get you used to well...Acting!

Endless possibilities! Just set your mind to it and you'll be an actress in no time! Break a Leg!

You have already been given some great answers. I asked the same question of successful stage actors many times. Most of them said :
"just hang out in any amateur theatre group, making yourself useful, learn to help building and painting sets, offer to learn stage managing as a helper, be a cheerful and helpful person and one day there will be a small role which you might audition for, maybe only a line or two. Meanwhile if you really want to be an actor LEARN TO TAP DANCE AND JUGGLE. For some reason being able to do those things gets you into theatre better than anything except singing of course. If you can sing it helps a lot."

I took their advice but, since I could not sing well I decided to learn DIALECTS. I learned 3 kinds of British, 2 Irish plus Indian and Russian. I got into as many plays as I wished with those dialects.
It made things so easy. Be careful with British. Some plays require
cockney, others, north country and others still upper class/ Each are entirely different and essential to certain plays. As for American plays, a southern genteel accent (Tennessee Williams) is sufficent. A good solid New York accent is a must (Dustin Hoffman saying " I'm walkin heaya, I'm walkin heaya".

Drama camp is a good start because you will learn and interact with others like yourself, and have fun doing it. You could also go to a college that is directed toward theatre. But that may be expencive. Start/keep trying out for roles and join a drama club in your local area. Also if you had extra talents such as singing or dancing, that would help even more. Good Luck!

Well, Haylee, here is what you'll be able to have got to do. You have got to begin out small, to get significant. Work your method up, to get to the highest. You can not take a mile while given an inch. So to wreck into performing, begin via doing neighborhood performs, neighborhood ads, infommercials and print paintings. Once your resume is padded up via this, take a look at sending your resume, headshot and canopy letter to businesses. After four-6 weeks, confidently one will likely be interested and signal you. If now not, after the four-6 weeks, it's appropriate to ship a postcard out to the businesses. Assuming all is going good, your agent can then ship you out auditioning for visitor spots on television suggests, small television and movie roles, neighborhood theatre, and so on. The subsequent step, once you have many, many extra tasks below your belt, could be to eventually achieve your target of Class A movie and television roles. Hope this used to be what you desired to listen to, if now not, it is the fact. Good good fortune, I wish you're making it, you look like an excessively discovered younger woman, and are so fortunate to have the aid of your mom and dad! Keep capturing for the celebrities!

The best headstart shall be arts college of course. But it's never easy....you gotta work real hard...esp after graduation. While in college, work and build up your network....from there, your experience and income will slowly roll in. It'll be a slow and painfully struggling period of your time.

Another alternative is to sign up for drama workshops (be it voice/movement/acting etc) can also help you get a head start. You make contacts and expressed your interest. Of course, passion is very very important.
