A sprain can take several weeks (about 4-6) to finish healing. You can expect soreness, swelling, and pain for a little while after that. You should give it some more time, and if it doesn't feel any better you may want to consider seeing your doctor again. You should ice it, wrap it (if you aren't already in a brace or something for the sprain), elevate it (above your heart), and try to stay off of it. Good luck!

a sprain can hurt a great deal for some time . most likely you have damaged some tissue in your ankle . you should rest the foot elevate it and use some indirect ice. later you may want to use a tensor bandage to support the joint.
be sure to check your foot after you put a tensor bandage on so that you are sure you have not put it on too tight. the blood circulation should remain almost the same as before. this can be seen by the colour of the area.

Sometimes a fracture doesn't even show on the x-ray for 24 hours or more. That is what they told me about my toe. It's been a year and it is still messed up. I KNOW I broke it, even though they say I didn't. Go see if they will re-examine the x-rays or take a new one that will show now. Good luck.

A sprain or a twist always hurts much much worse than a break, I think. Did the doctor say it was either one? Immobilize your foot and stay off the ankle, alternating ice and heat as you wish. Take a couple aspirin and wait. Time will heal it.

Some fractures do not show up on a normal x-ray. You may need an MRI or CAT scan.
