After their first immunizations. It's funny... I just looked this up seconds before seeing your question.

Another article says they can go anytime -- even prior to immunizations. Just as long as the water is warm enough. It makes sense, because chlorine kills germs & bacteria.

I would wait until 3 or 4 months old. There are too many germs and chemicals in a pool and even with sunscreen and a hat a baby shouldn't really get the amount of sun that would be reflected in a pool. Once they can hold their head up on their own it should be okay. If they are too young they wouldn't enjoy it anyway, you would be doing it for you. Most stores only sell bathing suits size 6-12 months and up for a reason.

I'd say ask your baby's Dr. Probably not before their shots kick in well and good, for their immune systems are still delicate. Me? I'm a little terrified of public pools. Got meningitis when I was 10 and traced it back to public pool. Remember what you did when you had to go pee as a kid and you were swimming? Plus, the chlorine levels are higher in public pools. My advice is to get you an inflatable one to get your baby acclimated. Then you don't have to worry so much about the water they'll inevitably swallow. hope this helps.

I would wait until at least 6-12 months old, and once they have had vaccinations. A public pool is a dirty place, and the water may be too cold for a young child before 6 months of age.

With newborns, the biggest problem is that they have difficulty regulating their own body heat and water is something that makes them cold pretty quick. I'd talk to a pediatrition about it--I didn't take my kids until they were a couple of months old.

I clicked on the link the other guy had... it says that you should wait until after their first course of immunizations, which is 8 weeks AND that the water temperature should be warm... but some pools won't take them until they're 12 weeks old.

I would wait-it won't be fun for an infant-they won't feel left out. Don;t forget exposure to pool chemicals and the mix is only as good as the guard that day! As far as diseases that was the breading ground in the summer for polio. Thank god there is now a vaccine! Good luck! Maybe next summer!

Sorry but a public pool must be very dangerous. People pee in it, or even bacteria or fungus could be found and a baby's skin is more delicate than a normal persons.

Try not taking them to the pool until they are like 1 year old.

Also if you really want to, call your doctor and ask them. Also don't forget to put sunscreen on him/her.

Take Care & Good Luckk =)
PS. Havee Fun!

I would wait until the baby can hold its own head up at least. Its best if he/she has all their shots though too. You also have to be careful of the temperature of the water. Since newborns can easily become hot or cold because they are unable to regulate their body temperature like we do. Good luck!

You probably need to talk to your doctor, but I would probably wait, personally until the baby was at least six months old, maybe even a year.
