I have a feeling I am about to get into some issues with this guy. So far, he has just been taking advantage of my wife's mother while going through this divorce, but today while my wife, her mother and a friend are having a yard sale, he sends his brothers over to cause problems and take pictures. I asked him to get them to back off because we have not involved ourselves with their problems, and he tells me that my wife has involved herself now. If I have further problems from him or anyone else in his family, what can I do legally?

Maybe I need to add here that my mother-in-law is disabled, but her disability has not kicked in yet. She has no income coming in at all, and he is not paying the bills except for the house which was hers and paid for prior to their marraige for 10 yrs prior to him. The mortgage was established to pay off his debt. She is merely trying to survive and selling mostly things that were hers prior to him. Our things are also there, as well as, a friends belongings for a major yard sale.

Call the cops the next time strangers who are unwelcome show up at her house. Have your mother-in-law tell her lawyer.

And then you and your wife stay out of it. I can't tell you what trouble you will save yourself by just being supportive of your mother-in-law but not getting involved with him. Don't talk with him, don't communicate in any way. Simply be ready to call the cops at any time and make sure her lawyer is aware. If your mother-in-law is in physical danger, encourage her to get a restraining order and make a complaint to the police.

Seems that you are a bit overreacting. He is going thru a divorce and could be concerned about the wife selling things. He had the right to check that out. YOu wife has inevitably aligned herself with her mother in this sales, that's was what he meant. To file any kind of restraining order will only invite lawyers looking into your bank accounts to see if money has been moved to you.

You might be able to get a restraining order against him but I'm not sure about his brother. I would talk to a lawyer.

Get an injunction against him and his family to steer clear of you and yours.
