I do not believe that you have to have merely one nor that they have to be your lover. I have more than one soul mate and some of them are right here on line. We are connected more strongly than you could imagine...we finish thoughts and show up together with no plan of doing so.
What is your idea, definition or explanation of a soul mate?

Your soul mate is someone who knows the inside of your heart. Someone who you never have to explain because they just get you. They know when something is wrong with you and they do everything they can to make you feel right again. If you have something you just cannot do because you are petrifed - your soul mate is the person who will step up and do it for you. It doesn't hurt anything if they happen to be an excellent letter writer either.

a soul mate to me does not necessarily have to be the person you are in a relationship with. it could be familial, friendship, spiritual, intimacy (with or without sex) etc... to me the phrase soul mate describes the undeniable bond you and this other person shares. the way you two understand each other and know what each other think with just a look. or the way you can finish "each others" sentences. The way this person knows you better than anyone in the world knows you and understands you. No im not saying the relationship you guys share is perfect either. In a lot of instances, "soul mates" have been forced apart by whatever circumstances, yet are somehow always drawn back to each other.

I do not believe they have to be a lover no, now I do know I have found mine here. We are connected in ways that I wont get into here, we are similar in many ways as well. There is a connection between us that even shined through with just words typed here and became even more apparent the more we talked the more we shared. There is this sense of love with him that I have never felt before, it just seems simply put right

i believe a soul mate is someone who makes you feel great about yourself. no matter what the circumstance, you always feel wonderful when you are with this person. you know each other so well, you can read each other's thoughts and emotions.
i believe that we all have a "soul mate". we all have someone who completes us. it's not always easy to recognize though. sometimes we have already met our soul mate but we haven't even realized it.

Half of a pair of soul mates. I guess my opinion is different than yours, I didn't know you could have more than one. Who are your soul mates on Y/A? Are you sure that these folks are not your lover, he could be using several accounts, none of which have his name or picture?

A soulmate is one who:
"Gets you" when the rest of the world doesn't.
You can feel what they are feeling, know what they are thinking, without having to ask.
One who you are comfortable being next to in silence as well as engaging in thoughts of the day.
One who you pine for when you are apart, but at the same time, does not need to cling to validate the relationship.
One who shares in your life while maintaining their own.
One who holds your hand, "Just because"
One who is truly your best friend above all else.

she is the lady that makes me whole - no one else will feel right.
nothing will matter when i meet her, age, looks, nor colour of her hair.
she will be the one that finally completes me and I know that I will be able to live eternity in the knowledge that I found her.
and when I die, having found the lady the captured my heart, I would die with a smile and a kiss on my lips, thinking of her forever more.
I will find her soon, I'm sure.

a sole mate to me is some one that can answer my questions the way I would love the thing I do and be nice like I am and most of all you never get tired of them
