Wow, the answers are all over the place. Here's the scoop from a retired pediatrician. Most infants lose the cord between 10 and 14 days of life, but anywhere between 7 and 21 days is considered normal.

There is a downside to delayed separation of the umbilical cord. It may be a sign of LAD, leucocyte adhesion deficiency, a condition that predisposes an affected person to recurrend serious infections. Fortunately the condition is rare. There are also abnormalities of the urachus, an embyronic remnant to consider. While most are not serious, surgery is sometimes required.

It is usually off around the 2 week visit-not alwyas. Clean with alcohol every diaper change as that hastens drying and keep the area open and exposed! Easier in the summer-use the new huggies umbilcal care diapers and an undershirt and you are good to go!!

Anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. Most of my child's fell of in 2 weeks and then the rest at about 6 weeks. All babies are different. Just keep it clean and as long as it doesn't get infected you'll be fine.

Normally 7-10 days
If it does not be sure to see your peditrician
It took SEVEN weeks for my 1st born's to fall off.. they cut it too short so it never would dry so they had to 'burn' it off a few times...

Two to four weeks ... if you want to help it, dab it with a bit of Isopropyl Alcohol (JUST THE CORD, NOT THE BABY) which will help it to 'dry up' and fall off, as well as keep it clean and from 'smelling bad'.

At the very least, it should be showing signs of falling off at it's 6 week checkup.
