I found a double headed quarter last week and I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell if it is real.

It is not real there are no authenticated two headed quarters. In fact it is impossible to make one at the mints in modern times. The dies are made to fit only in the right places on the coining press. An obverse die will not fit into the reverse dies area. You have a novelty coin and come in all denominations as well as two heads or two tails. There is a 2 headed Indian cent that the mint says is real but they are not sure how it was made, they think an employee in the late 1800's made it special. He may have been bored and it got out by mistake or he wanted to make a few extra dollars. Today it would be too hard too do and a person could easily get caught. It has little collector value. at least it is a conversation piece.

a particular gravity try, or using an XRF scanner is the only thank you to truly tell for confident. additionally, the markings of "1oz" oftentimes consult with the burden of the organic useful metallic, no longer the coin itself. Say to illustrate the 1oz Gold Britannia coin, it truly weighs closer to 34 grams, as this is not any longer a .999 coin.

Use a magnet.Take a normal coin and that coin.Take a magnet and hold it over the normal coin first and than over that coin that you found. If the coin goes faster to the magnet then the coin is not real and if the coin goes slower or doesn't comes to the magnet its real.
