New York City was the first official capital from 1785 to 1790. George Washington was inaugurated there.
Philadelphia was the capital from 1790 to 1800.
Washington D.C. has been the capital ever since.

I believe the capital of the U.S. in 1779 would have been Philadelphia, PA. It wasn't moved to Washington, D.C. until later. The First Dali Lama was buried in the village of Chisasingra, in what is now Tibet. He died in 1423 at the age of 37 after a rather brutal battle with syphilis.

Well, before Washington, DC, the capital was New York, but that wasn't until Washington became president since before that we were under the Articles of Confederation, so it could very well be Philadelphia.
