It depends very much on what part of Texas your talking about.
I lived in Austin, Texas for over 40 years and never saw a tarnado.
They do have gully washer flooding quite often, don't live in low areas. I had a friend in Manchaca, Texas about 30 years ago that couldn't leave home for 2 days because of flash flooding and a road washed out.
The flooding up around DFW is somewhat common, that area is kinda flat.
I did live thru hurricane Carla in the middle 1960's, it weren't much in Austin but they caught all kinds of hell in the Brownsville Corpus Christi area.
Up north in the panhandle ice storms and sometimes heavy snow in late winter.
In and around Houston has flooding, flat land again.
Out west in the Big Bend country drought and wild fires are somewhat common.
Then there is the sand storms near the New Mexico border.
Keep in mind that it is about 1000 miles from Beaumont to El Paso and about the same from Brownsville to Amirillo.

Nothing ever happens in small cities like San Antonio, Gruene, New Braunfels, etc. but Austin and Houston are another story. Austin and Houston can get pretty bad floods.
Tornadoes in NB, SA, Gruene, etc. : Very very rarely, if there are, it's literally just a 20-60 mph wind for 2 minutes, nothing dangerous or to even be scared of.
Hurricanes: Only 40mph winds very rarely
Floods: Rarely, only in some areas
Snow: Hardly, it's only frozen the ground one time in my lifetime but you can still drive, just drive slowly but it's a pretty safe place to live.

The Texas panhandle gets terrible snowstorms.
The coast can have hurricanes.
Tornadoes are not uncommon in the heartland.
There are floods right now in the north eastern part of Texas.
Brush fires occur.
I've not heard of any earthquakes lately.

tornadoes are a big possibility, hurricanes/tropical storms (if they get to your area), and big storms that sweep through the area can cause flooding...
have you heard about the dallas area and the flooding? thats a great example there
