PHYSICS

work done by the system is negative
work done on the system is positive

work done by the system is POSITIVE
work done on the system is NEGATIVE

i wil tell u about chemistry and the reverse happens in physics first consider the process in a reaction form and always put the energy on the right hand side like if energy is released then if we have to write it on the right side then it must be positive

Energy going in is positive, energy coming out is negative. Exotherms and binding energies are negative.
