Young people want to get older because they think that older people's lives are more glamorous than they really are, that older people have more fun than they really do adn they can do a lot of things young people can't and that they have it all figured out.

Older people want to be young because they now know how much more fun it was to be a kid, how much you could get away with as a kid, how little responsibility you had as a kid and how much simpler life was as a kid and how much healthier and energetic you are as a kid.

Older people don't have life figured out. When you get older, you'll find out that things are not as wonderful as they once appeared to be. Don't be in any rush to grow up. Enjoy your youth. You'll get older one day but take as much time as you can because there's no going back.

The problem is everyone thinks it is better to be older as you get older. My mom used to always say, "Just wait until you are older..." whenever I would ask a question she really didn't want to answer or didn't know how to answer. I didn't think getting older was so good after I was 30 because I knew that getting older brought more trouble and problems. Now that I'm over 50, it seems that time is running away faster than before and I would like to have some time back maybe to change a few things in the past. The other thing I can't figure out is why as you get older the hair in your nose and ears grows faster than the hair (What is left of it!) on top of your head. That may be the main reason people want to go back to being young again. When you get older, your body is no longer the friend it used to be and seems to work against you more. I know that it puts on fat easier and it is harder to get rid of the extra weight than when I was younger.

well most younger people want to be older b/c of things they cant do. I know when i was younger than i am now I wanted to drive well you couldnt untill you were like 15 or 16 then i wanted to move out cant do that till your 18 and so on. Once they get older however they realize how good they had it when they were younger or how good they looked or something and wished to be younger.

It seems to me that when I was younger, this thought was running through my head... "If I was older.. I wouldn't have to listen to anyone and I can do what I want." Now that I've reached that point in my life, the thoughts have changed too, "Man I wish I was a kid again... to be able to have the freedom of a child with little or no responsibilities."

Could be that we as humans, desire control. As a child we cant have it, so we see adults doing what they want without being told what to do, and we want it. When we do get older and realize that it's not the case, we want to be young again and not have the responsibilities of being an adult.

I don't really believe it's a case of young wanting to be old and vice versa. The 20s is the age most desired by the majority of people. When you're younger, you want to be in your 20s to become an independent grown-up. When you're in your 20s you're usually quite happy with your age. When you're older you start fearing getting older, so you long to go back to the 20s. But very few people in their 30s and older wish they could go back to their confused teenage years or their early childhood. That's my tuppence.

When you are 17, you can't wait to turn 21 so you can drink in the bar. Hopefully, you try that once and move on. Car insurance is so much cheaper at 25, so now you can't wait to be 25. By now, you may be married, have a child, a mortgage, etc. Boy, by the time you are 35, you will have all these bills paid down, be set, etc. Thirty five comes, and so does high school for your son. He needs $50,000 a year to survive clothing, sports, food, wants, needs, etc. There goes the paying off of the bills. By now, you are almost 40. You don't have fun like you used to. It is now a chore to keep up with things that were second nature 20 years ago. Boy, I wish I were 20 again................................

Because when you are younger you think it will be great and you can do what you want when you are older.. and when you are older you find out that you are wrong and you could do more of what you wanted when you were a child.

Because people are curious creatures. The grass is always greener on the other side. When you are young, you have less freedoms (can't drive, gamble, drink, rent a car) and when you are old, you start to get body aches and wrinkles. The ideal is to be 25. You get to have all the freedoms (legally) and you still look good :)

When you are young you want to have all the privileges that come with age. Respect, money, freedom, driving, drinking etc... They don't understand the responsibilities that come with those privileges. Expectations, jobs, bills, insurance, etc... When they get older they wish they could go back to the time where they had fewer responsibilities in life.

well, i think that when they are younger people think that when you are older you can do what ever you want and be independant, because no one tells you what to do or not to do. but when they are older, they are tired, have too much to do like work and kids, so they want to go back to their youth and not have so many responsibilities.
