If there's no right to do that, life would be hell.

Of course. While your body is your temple, I believe that each human's right to do what they will with their own body is sacred and inviolate. I also believe it is the right of all humans not so inclined to do away with themselves to protect those are from harming themselves.

So you should have the right to commit murder?

A friend's 21 year-old daughter attempted suicide this week. The family is devastated because they didn't see it coming.

One problem with the "right to suicide" idea is that many people who do this would be able to lead happy, productive lives if they received therapy and/or medication. Six months after a suicide attempt they are often totally repulsed by the idea they almost removed themselves from the planet.

It's different when the person is hopelessly ill, there's an argument there. But hell is what you make it. I prefer to strive for heaven.

My friend's daughter was taken to another state to remove her from the influences that led to her suicide attempt. Maybe a change of pace would help your attitude as well.

I believe that God gives life. He knows the instant, the moment, the microsecond that the spirit of the person born and into what body it will go. He has already purposed within that body what joys and happiness and greatness that person will have. He also knows that satan, man's arch enemy is also making plans to attempt to secure that same person - to steal, kill and destroy that life as quickly as he can. He uses his negative powers and imps to pursue that person and fill him or her with dispair and desolation, depression and hatred for himself and the world he lives in. Sometimes, he is successful and sometimes not. If the person is able to grab hold of the good and manage to have a glimpse of the good life that God has to offer if he will only provide a little bit of faith and work toward that positive goal, that person would be able to see that life can be beautiful and love can surpass all evil. The right to live and love is far more and far greater than the detrimental end whereby one allows suicide, claiming one's own life. Because life is so special and such a gift, I don't believe that we have the right to take our lives. Life does not have to be hell....it can be a mixture of challenges and battles, of people who care and share, and people who have yet to learn. Why not fulfill the dream, live it out and see what the Lord has in store.

Something I wonder about....people that don't take care of their health - knowing what we all know about the dangers of smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, etc....isn't that a form of suicide? I think maybe sometimes it's clear someone has killed themself and other times someone is killing themself slowly and no one really takes notice. Is one method really worse than the other? If we believe that life is a gift from God, does it matter if it's destroyed immediately or if it's just damaged over a period of time until it's destroyed? It seems like we do all have the right to kill ourselves...some just are more obvious than others.

I don't know how you can make suicide a "right", but we do all have the choice, no matter how sick that is.

I'm pretty religious, so far me, taking away your life on earth because its "hell" will only lead a deeper and more painful, literal hell.

So yes, I do think we all have a right to decide the paths we take in our lives, and when to stop it. But do I agree with the reasoning behind it... no.

God I hate suicide..so freaking depressing man..everytime I hear that someone has taken their own life I get sick..I see all these people dying from AIDS,Cancer..ect and they would do just about anything to live another day..We all have the right to live so why would you have the right to take your own life? That is more like a moral issue than anything else..you would have to take it up with God..because he is the one who made you..life is hell whether you live in it or choose to punk out..but there is a purpose to living..I don't agree with suicide, whether or not you have a "right"to kill yourself that is for you to decide..people are gonna do it anyway, right? You can't put a dead person in jail for killing themself...it's just freaking depressing,man..

Of course, everyone has the rght to do with themselves whatever they want. Whilst there are laws against it, there is nothing that can be done once you have killed yourself. However, there are deep moral issues to this. Euthanasia is a very well publicicsed issue and their are arguments both for and against it. You also have to take into consideration the impact your choices will have on other people, whilst your body belongs to you, your friendship belongs to other people and you can't just take it away from them suddenly, that is wrong.

You certainly have a right to kill yourself if you aren't in a padded cell, a strait-jacket, or aren't without the your arms, hands, fingers.

However, I can't agree life would be hell without that right. Maybe having the choice throughout life, and repudiating it, is somehow important. I don't know.

You have a choice to do it, and within the choice, there's the basic "right" option, and the basic "wrong" option. Generally, most people would find that choosing to kill yourself is the wrong thing to do, but it doesn't mean that you have to follow what they say and not do it because they say it's wrong. It's your life, you do what you want.

It matters not if you die slowly or quickly, at the hands of another or at the hands of your own. We will ALL get to the same place. There is no way around it. That is because we have been promised everlasting LIFE. We don't die, we will change form, I don't recommend suicide though, because you may not like the form you become in your new life.

It's more like a choice than a right. Even if you don't have a right to suicide who can stop you, no one except you. You have a choice to end your life for your own good or live for your loved one's sake. Now which one is more important your life or your loved ones. Are you coward or brave? Will you not scrifice your life for your loved ones? or are you really that ignorant? Lastly who will suffer from your death not you, it's your loved ones who shall suffer. The choice is yours.
