I put the kids' Megablocks (large lego blocks) in the dishwasher. They were looking kind of dirty, being that they're a few years old and never washed before. We had so many of them that it would have taken forever to try to wash them by hand. It was two loads of colorful Megablocks in the dishwasher. ;-)
I've put soap holders and stovetop burners in the dishwasher too, but I never thought that was strange!

I run a cup and a half of white vinegar through the empty dishwasher on a full wash cycle. I let the washer fill, then add it. It will eat through any grease and residue and the smell will be gone. Since your dishes are already loaded, then just leave them in there, add the vinegar and run it through a short wash/rinse with no soap then just run it as usual. Vinegar is safe and very inexpensive. I use it for a variety of cleaning jobs. Good luck!

My mom use to run plastic plates through our dishwasher. I don't know, I thought that was pretty insane.

I put my tongue scraper in the dishwasher.
Not sure which is weirder, though-- having a tongue scraper, or running that tongue scraper through the dishwasher?

The neighbors cat ! That was hilarious and scarry. It was only on for a couple of seconds. That was quite a noise. We figured it must have been licking the plates and didn't get scared until the water turned on !
