On the other hand, a gamma ray burst could bake the planet to a crisp long before our Sun expands beyond the edges of Earth's orbit. A gamma ray burst (GRB) is a burst of gamma rays and is the most powerful known type of explosion in the universe. They are flashes of gamma rays that last from seconds to hours, the longer ones being followed by several days of X-ray afterglow. They occur at apparently random positions in the sky several times each day. Now, so far as we can tell, the radiation emitted during such events is tightly focused into beams, rather than sprayed in all directions. But even a "near miss", from many light years off, could completely sterilize this rock.
Not to mention, the Milky Way Galaxy is set to collide with our nearest neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy, in 3-5 billion years. Who knows what could happen?

The world will end in about five billion years when the Sun swells up into a red giant and engulfs all the inner planets. However, the end of all life on Earth will come much sooner. As the Sun continues to brighten, in about one billion years it will be hot enough to boil off all the oceans and turn the Earth into a dead lump of rock.

The birth of earth is app. 5 billion years ago, and it will find its end in another 5 bill years and v r in the mid age f earth.
As all stars,when all the hydrogen n the sun dries up the sun becomes 3 times huge wen compared to its original size. this stage of sun is called red giant . the matter related to end of earth is that wen it becomes red giant, the distance between earth and sun reduces to a few 100 thousand kms.
At that stage the planets mercury and Venus will melt.
About earth?? the oceans in the earth will melt and the life n the earth will b terminated.....
And after a few million years ,sun ll die completely and the remaining planets ll become heavenly bodies

There is a great article on wikipedia about how terrestrial things could kill us all. It makes you think that with all the thing that could kill us that are right here on earth, what might there be in space? Well, for starters supernova, black hole, asteriods, comets, meteorites, whats known as a false vacuum, the big rip, the big chill, etc. etc.
A lot of things could kill us, but in all reality nothing will for many thousands of years if not millions of years.
