You have to use the battery to know if it is damaged or not. Then if it is damaged try to blame the computer.

If it's Lithium Ion, you must charge it as much as possible.
If it's not Lithium Ion, you must dis-charge it as much as possible, then charge it up fully.
To charge any laptop battery, plug in the AC power cord.

No dear it does not damage.
It is however better to discharge it fully in 2-3 months
and charge again.
