No. The pokemon must be in your party while holding an exp share to get the effects of it.

no it doesnt it only works when the pokemon that is holding the iteam and it can be in battle to get more EXP then the pokemon thats battling or it can be out of battle witch would get half of the EXP. Hope this helped.

No the exp share has to be on a Pokémon in your party. If the Pokémon in your party that is holding the exp share is fighting it gets 2x the exp or something... Try it.
