The authentic Macedonia is part of Greece.
There is also a Balkan country called the republic of (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia which is certainly not part of Greece.
Authentic-Macedonia is one of the biggest regions of Greece. It is situated in the north part of Greece and it borders 3 Balkan states.
The ancient Macedonia was a Greek kingdom and it was roughly the same size as the modern region of Macedonia. From the Greek state of Macedonia Alexander started his epic campaign of spreading the Greek culture and the Greek civilization all over the known word. His campaign was so successful that for nearly 300 years Greek (Hellenistic) Kingdoms controlled Asia Minor, Middle East, Egypt and even the north part of India.
There is also a state that emerged from Yugoslavia and it is officially recognized by UN as FYROM meaning Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. That country has no relation with ancient (or modern) Greek Macedonia but it is instead a Slavic/Albanian country. {The 2/3 of the population is Slav-Macedonians (of Bulgarian origin) and the 1/3 is Albanian/Macedonians}
During the communist dictatorship of Tito a great propaganda took place in that state. The propaganda tried to “convert” the mixed population to believe that they are linked to the ancient Greek Macedonians and that they need to take real Macedonia back from Greece.
The propaganda has worked on some on the Slavs and some (few fanatics) actually believe that they are true Macedonians and although they speak a Slavic language and they are part of the Slavic culture they actually believe that they are not Slavs!!!!
Of course the government of FYROM (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia has clearly stated that they are not linked to Greek Macedonia and Alexander the Great and is still doing a great effort to stop the few fanatics from compromising the stability of the new state.
And if you want any proof that they are Slavs here is what the first President of (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov said: “We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" (Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992, p. 35). Also, Mr Gligorov declared: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia… Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century" (Toronto Star, March 15, 1992).

Also the (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia is negotiating with Greece (under the UN authority) for an international name that will not insult the Greeks and will not have any claim against Greek Macedonia.
(The name that the country is using for itself is actually Makedonija but they are using internationally the Greek name Macedonia and a lot tend to confuse the Slavic/Albanian state with Greek Macedonia).

The state of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) is not part of Greece. Greece has no imperialist views on any of its neighbours, unlike some of its neighbours.
The province of Macedonia which is part of Greece has inhabitants who are of course Greek, and they are Macedonians. Being a Macedonian is not an ethnicity or separate national group in Greece. It is like the Tuscanians are Italians, or the New Yorkers are Americans. Of course, the inhabitants of FYROM are not Greek, they are of Slavic or Albanian descendance, which is why they are trying to find a unifying "national" identity under the false Macedonian pretext.
All this confusion is exactly why we say that the name Macedonia cannot refer by itself to a state outside of Greece, you see how much confusion it creates.

I AM CANADIAN!!!!!!

And Macedonia was... is... and will never quit being part of Greece !!!!!!

The only people that do not believe so re the ones that have no clue or the Slavic Vardars themselvs.

What I want to know is why the Skopjeslavians are not proud of being from a Slavic country????

Alexander the great was not Slavic.... yet they try to lay claim to him...they have changed the name of their prinicipal ariport to Alexander the great????

The Skopjeslavians are obvioulsy trying to eventually lay claim to the Macedonian province in Greece...

In my opinion this is evil...

There seems to be a lot of heated debate over this question. I will pose this answer: Countries are nothing but land with borders. True identity comes from within, not from where your "from". everyone relies on their sense of identity, and it makes sense that people would become angry when they have a preconceived notion of their identity. Here is the solution: everyone is a human being before they are anything else so in the end it does not matter where you are from, we
are all the same inside no matter where our political or national alliances lie.
