Never never add or subtract fractions unless their denominators ( the bottom numbers) are the same. In your problem they are the same , so we can subtract right away.

well being that the bottom numbers of your fraction are the same you just subtract the top numbers & simplify

15x/20 - x/20

so: 15x - x = 14x

so your final answer is 14x/20
then simplify by dividing both the top & bottom of your fraction by 2

= 7x/10

Well, you have common denominators, and your numerators are 15x and -x, so when you add those together, you get 14x.

So, you have 14x/20, which can be reduced to 7x/10.
