Should viruses and spyware be a concern when using a PS3's internet browser?

Technically, yes. Though, unlike PCs, a PS3 has very few places for them to hide. Most viruses and spyware use the customisable nature of PCs to infect them whereas a console tends to have a standard set-up which make it harder.
Secondly, Sonys R@D dept would probably pick up any potential problem, seeing as it could affect ALL there customers, so it may be wise to keep an eye on upgrades.

Well yes the PS3 it just like a computer, the viruses may not even affect it or it could be even worse from a regular computer

im resonable sure about this...
u see... PS3 is based od lynux and since 99% of viruses and spyware circulates on windows, it is not very likely that you catch something.
it would be possible for someone to make a virus on lynux and then somehow transfering, but i don't think anyone would try. too complicated on lynux u know?

Not at all. Viruses are programmed for specific operating systems. Just like most viruses won't work on Mac computers because they are programmed for the Windows Operating system.
