Do you mean the TouchPad OR have you connected a mouse?

If your touchpad still functions when the mouse is connected, disable it.

Call your laptop vendor, if you can't find it in the Manual.

If you're on Windows XP:

Start > Control Panel > Mouse

Have a look around the tabs to see if there is an option to reset the device. If not, reinstall with Linux.

try installing Synaptics Pointing Device then you should be able to control the beast.
