Do you mean the TouchPad OR have you connected a mouse?
If your touchpad still functions when the mouse is connected, disable it.
Call your laptop vendor, if you can't find it in the Manual.

If you're on Windows XP:
Start > Control Panel > Mouse
Have a look around the tabs to see if there is an option to reset the device. If not, reinstall with Linux.
