The problem with health care in the USA is caused by the waisting of the available resources.
Fee for service carries an intrinsic conflict of interest that can not be controlled. So regardless of what anyone thinks we should do as a nation, ask yourself this question:
How can we pay health care providers so that they do not ordered unnecessary services and at the same time preserve their efficiency.
What we want to come up with is this:
Quality health care for every one at a reasonable cost.
If we can not achieve that perfectly,
the best solution will be the one that gets closest to that goal.

Let's fix what we have now. What is the problems? High costs. Why? High Insurance Premiums, why? Excessive payouts on lawsuits? So ER docs perform unneeded tests to keep from being sues which drives up costs, and the end of life care (which would most definitely go away under socialized med) is where the majority of your medical costs are. So the problems seem to stem from lawyers getting excessively rich and juries that award huge payouts and Insurance companies that will not work at a loss. Fix the problem folks, don't reinvent the wheel just because you have a broken spoke. That just plain makes no logical sense.

LOL
Look, the government does the subsidizing so there is no need for lowering prices - when socilized medicine arrives all the lawsuits will be out and everyone gets the same healthcare at the same cost
LOL
yeah right - and i have a bridge over the desert i would like you to buy also
LOL
The only way to do this properly is to get the government out of the insurance business and let the market drive the price
If you cant get the government out it will remain screwed up no matter what you do

Currently, the "problem" is inextricably linked to the greatest health care system the world has ever known. HillaryCare would dismantle a huge engine for medical advancement.
As an option, I suggest the "Get off your *ss do something about your own problems" approach. It's always worked in the past.

National health insurance program. Insurance companies and quality of health care will go down, and doctors will make a lot less, but healthcare will be available to more and employers will pay much less. Most Americans will not accept it because spoiled with present system.

Attack the core problems and not just find a way to pay for them - malpractice insurance, high costs of care and supplies. Find out who's making a ton of money unjustly.
