When Windows Vista first came out, I recall it was January. Maybe in February, I needed a laptop, so my father and I went to Best Buy to look for some notebooks. We asked the Geek Squad what they think, buy or don't buy Windows Vista. The man said " I would wait until the summer because the opperating system is new", which I agree on. Now it's July, and I called the Geek Squad and asked them again, buy or don't buy Windows Vista. The guy said "I would wait until the end of summer to buy a laptop becuase it's the little bugs and viruses on Windows Vista that make you want to pull out your hair". I'm confussed. I don't know what to do, I want to wait so I have a good notebook for a while, but then again I get impatient waiting for Windows to finaly fix these minor problems. I read what people said to others, " Wait 6 months". Please reply.

I've been using Vista since Release Cannon 1 or RC1 I did beta testing for the product also. It is a stable product as stable as Windows XP.

It has way to many new features to list. You will have to buy it to see what I mean.

Some of the problems are the User Account Control settings. When you are logged onto your computer you will be prompted all the time whether or not you really want to do something. This is an annoyance and Microsoft has heard no end to it. It can easily be circumvented though as there are many ways to do this on the web.

I personally have had no problems at all with it. I installed it on my 5 yr old Dell with no problems. I only had to get an updated driver for my Video card for the sleep option Vista provides. Every program I use has worked fine with it from Sims 2 to VMWare Server and every thing in between.

Vista offers backwards compatibility for all programs and will show you exatly how to do it in its help section. Vista will also look for new drivers for any of your hardware just as XP does.

If it comes pre installed then you will have none of the driver issues like I had. I recommend buying it. One think I do know is that most pre installs come with Home Basic or Premium. I would use nothing less than Premium and really recommend nothing less than Business Vista.

I recommend buying it and give yourself time to get to know it all over again just as you had with XP.

Vista on a NEW machine is probably OK, but make sure there are Vista drivers for your Printer, Scanner, Camera, etc. FIRST. These are what cause most migration problems. Not all applications work in Vista, either.

Upgrading to Vista on an older PC is not a good idea YET, use the free Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (Google for it) to test your PC's compatibility.

Then, wait until all the manufacturer's have Vista drivers in place. Until then stick with XP.

You have to make sure there are drivers for everything, and make sure your programs all work on Vista. There aren't many "small bugs," like the Geek Squad guy said, but other companies have to get with their act and produce drivers and programs that work with Vista. Many programs have to be run in a slow compatibility mode, or can't be run at all, and many drivers haven't come out yet. Otherwise, you'd be fine to get a new computer with Vista.

I would install Vista when Microsoft stops supporting WinXp.
Or when donkeys fly twice.
Untill then I'll only repair other peoples Vista problems...not my own.

i would buy it when you want to, just make sure you keep your computer updated (windows updates) because that's how microsoft fixes the problems it finds, and make sure the drivers you need NOW are vista compatible (printer, etc)

i would give it another year to get all the bugs out. windows vista isn't foolproof yet they seem like they are finding issues every month with it still.

Wait until you get a new computer at least. If you're a gamer like me, don't get it until they fix all the bugs.
