Call 911 and they will prioritize the call. Make sure you make it clear there are no personal injuries. Most people don't know their local police division's number let alone what local police division you had the accident in.

It depends on how your city handles 911. In Dallas, TX, all calls to the city are divided between 311 and 911, the former for non-emergency city services, the latter for police, fire, and ambulance. But an auto accident should result in a call to 911 because they can classify how to handle it with a series of questions within the law about reporting accidents to the state and within the work load of the available officers. Normally, any injuries and if any car is disabled, Dallas will dispatch an officer.
I call 911 for anything on the roadway to report a problem except when it clearly a maintenance problem (chuck hole, traffic light out) or I have been told before to call 311. I will call 911 to report a problem with a traffic light if traffic is backed up.
What hacks off the 911 system isn't reporting problems on the borderline, it is calls that clearly fall in some other area like those asking for directions or trying to get a pizza delivered.

As usual most people are wrong....
If you are in an accident, you CAN and should call 911. Calling the non-emergency number will accomplish nothing since the records clerk that answers that phone cannot talk to or send the police.
Calling 911 gets you in contact with the people that tell the police where to go. If it's a non-emergency accident then they will prioritize accordingly.

Absolutely Not!! unless there is real injury or fire involved. As a volunteer firefighter and emt I am quite aware of how overtaxed the 911 system has become. Most states have a similar number to be used for non emergency situations such as when you would like a police officer to respond to write a report of the accident and determine and document fault. Contact your local authorities to find out this number so you will be able to use it should the need arise. Unnecessary use of the 911systems may cause a delay for someone who needs it for a true emergency situation. If your loved one was having a heart attack or your house was on fire you do not want to wait while the emergency operator is taking information from someone whose Mercedes got a dented fender. Please take this seriously and save 911 for its true intention, EMERGENCIES.

If you know the non-emergeny number it would be better to call that one. If you don't call 911. Clearly state it is no one is hurt, that there was an accident and where.
The most important thing is don't make the call longer than it needs to. Or call back every 5 mins asking when the police are going to arrive

Everyone who has a cell phone should have their local police non-emergency telephone numbers programmed into their address book. If you're subsequently involved in an auto accident and don't need medical treatment, you would call that number. If however, you're involved in an accident and need to have the auto towed away from the scene, to prevent causing more accidents, you'd need to call 911. It all depends upon the situation. Remember also that the people in the other vehicle may call 911 for a minor situation or they may need medical help.

yes you would dial 911 to get a police officer dispatched to the scene. Some area's have officers that are completely dedicated to automobile accidents. We have one in Savannah that does it all the time.

yes. anytime you need the police, fire etc call 911.
If you call the station directly, they usually cant come out to the call - They need the call/incidents documented thru the 911 system. Good question though
