They are both soo cutee! I think I would pick the pomeranian - cuz they're more fluffy and soft, - I dont know any good or bad things about either though. The only thing I can say is that my nail lady has a pom and she loves her but she barks all the time - but it may be just that dog because my other friend has a pom and loves him to death, and he doesnt bark a lot! Good luck with your decision, both are good dogs!

Both are cronic yappers and have a tendency to be aggressive (or as aggressive as a 5lb dog can be). They are difficult to housetrain (since they are small and don't understand boundaries). Poms have a lot of fur to brush, or else it matts. They are prone to hereditary health problems (go to the breed club websites for more info). I'm not much of a small dog person, so that's the more objective look. lol. I would probably choose the Chihuhua, though, since I know a few and they seem to be very nice little dogs (with the exception of yapping). Good luck!

I have a short-coated male Chi and though I adore him I would take a female one now. Chi males tend to overcompensate their small size by being dominant and a bit snappy. It's what I hear from most owners of male Chi's . A short coat needs no grooming which is great and do not opt for teacup size either, medium size are healthier and less fragile. My Chi makes 8 mile walks in the woods without any problem and hates to be carried around, but then agian, he really thinks he's a big german sheperd ;-) I love Pomeranians too but have no experience with them...

I am very big on chihuahuas. They require a lot of time from their owners, and are nervous dogs. Since you will be getting a puppy, then you shouldn't have problems with it getting along with your other dogs. Sometimes their sugar gets low, causing them to shake, just feed them a little sugar cereal. (FrootLoops, Lucky Charms, Captain Crunch...you get the idea). They are VERY loyal. They tend to stick with only one person. They are also VERY protective. They do have an attitude sometimes if they get mad at you, but get over it quickly as not to tear things up like some dogs will do for what I call 'doggie revenge'. They are also VERY intelligent, more laid back, and very loving. A pom is friendly with almost everyone and not as protective. They require a lot of maintenance with their coat such as brushing and grooming. There will be a bigger problem with fleas, and they are more prone to skin infections due to their thick coats. They are very loving dogs, but also a bit hyper.

I vote for Chihuahua. I am prejudiced though because I have a Chihuahua. His name is Nemo. He is the 2nd chi I have owned. My first Chi, Katie was stolen. Both of them are the best dogs we have ever had. Good things: affectionate, playful, loyal, protective. Even though Nemo is small (I am not sure he realizes that), he is a good watch dog. We had someone break into our house not long ago, and the intruder ran away without taking too much and there were several expensive items laying around his port of entry. The theory is that Nemo scared him away. Bad things: Nemo is an attention hound. I have tried to explain to him that I cannot pet him 24/7. Good luck with which ever puppy you choose.

Both make excellent pets. Chihuahuas do tend to prefer their own kind/breed, though. Pomeranian's require a lot more grooming but if you don't mind doing that then it's not a negative (kind of nice to just sit with one in your lap while watching t.v. and keep up with their hair). I do hope you're hoping to adopt and not buy!!!!
